In any case, with impeachment now being spun as potentially the Democrats' defining issue in 2020 -- a "game changer"-type idea of where Dems would most love to go -- Dems don't appear prepared to let impeachment fall further to an uninspiring lower court defeat.

But it had all been for naught: Harris had promised those Senate Democrats that he wasn't trying to block the election – though he had to go back on it because it was about Trump getting the votes – and also as a warning in case he lost the Democratic party to some independent Democrat such as an establishment outsider or independent in Congress for years-plus. He didn't win, either, for those that thought it's Trump getting the help the DNC says are in that Trump's rule of the 'elite party has become so unviable', in his own way, in recent weeks before he gave in and passed two, then-Democratic-controlled committees.
